2017 Interior Trends

February 9, 2017

It’s out with the old and in with the new for 2017. Main Street Homes has done the homework for you by scouring the trends for 2017. Let us introduce you to what’s hot (and what’s not) for 2017. Some of the red-hot fads of last year are saying goodbye, which means not as many white kitchens. Bring on the shades of gray, because they are taking over the kitchen with regard to wall color, tile selection, especially cabinetry. Grays are trending away from a light gray and more into the full family of smoky French grays. But we aren’t just talking paint, no, grey/sepia stained cabinets are what’s hot. These cool shades mixed with the warmth of wood bring balance to any kitchen. Keeping with the wood trend is the presence of gorgeous sliding barn doors, many crafted from reclaimed antique wood. This brings us to another sizzling craze this year: reclaimed wood, shiplap, and barn wood making its way into accent elements throughout the home. This mixing of wood selections is a trend all by itself, with designers integrating antique wood into new construction. Mixed Metals is our next hot trend. Brushed nickel is out making way for its other brushed cousins, rose, gold, and brass. That’s right! Brass is back, but modernized by it new sophisticated brushed finish. Mix any of these new finishes with classic bronze and sleek chrome for a high fashion mixture that sparkles! Table or “workhorse” islands continue to dominate the kitchen in 2017. These multi-functional staples add prep space and create an inviting area to enjoy good food and good conversation with family and friends. Make your island a focal point with quartz countertops, a contrasting color cabinet even change up the hardware making your island a standalone show stopping piece. Luxurious spa bathrooms are stealing the budget from the kitchen with people desiring a place to relax and rejuvenate. They provide sanctuary from today’s busy lifestyles and are always a smart place to spend your design energy, as they provide a good return on investment upon resale. We are seeing many customers removing the tub for a large shared shower; opting for raincan shower heads, body jets, and modern glass enclosures. Tile is a great way to add style to your bathroom. Stay on trend with 12 x 24” elongated tiles in the bathroom to create a feeling of elegance and simplicity. Finally, one of the hottest trends for 2017 doesn’t involve the inside of the home at all. Front doors have become an area to be daring and give passersby’s a glimpse into the personality who resides within. Go bold with Mustard yellow and teal or add just a whisper of color hinting at the style within. Either way don’t miss this opportunity to express your personal style. As with any popular trend, you can take what you love and incorporate it into your home while leaving the rest for the splashy magazine spreads. And there you have it: what’s hot and “what’s not” for 2017.
