A Pop of Pantone: 2017’s Color of the Year

January 12, 2017

If your New Year’s Resolution falls into the category of changing it up, taking risks, experimenting with new ideas, revitalizing your life, or living more boldly, then the Pantone’s color of the year might be right up your alley. The 2017 color pick is Greenery, a sublime lime offering a world of possibility for perking up home décor. Symbolizing new beginnings, it’s the perfect tone for a new year. According to The Pantone Institute for Color’s website, Greenery is a “fresh and zesty yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of spring when nature’s greens revive, restore and renew.” Pantone says that the color “signals consumers to take a deep breath, oxygenate and reinvigorate.” Coming off a tumultuous and politically divisive 2016, who couldn’t appreciate this breath of fresh air? Greenery is ambitious, bold, and boisterous; it’s eye catching on every level. Incorporating Greenery into your home could begin right at the front door. Depending on the exterior hue of your siding, a bright lime green door could provide you with a pop of color that’s quite cheerful and inviting.   Greenery pairs perfectly with black and white as well as hues of navy blues. The recent trends of “white rooms” like pallid kitchens, for example, leaves the perfect opening for an accent wall just begging for a blush of color. Have a neutral colored couch or sofa? Toss a throw pillow on it that picks up the lime color and it can immediately tie into an accent wall brushed in Greenery. Beyond accent walls, Greenery can “bring the zing” with tiny accents of color by applying the hue to bar stools, side tables, trim pieces, mudroom lockers, the backs of bookshelves, backsplashes, or curtains. The possibilities are endless in terms of the opportunities to welcome this lush green into your home.    It’s a new year and maybe a new you. Why not rejuvenate your home as well? A makeover with Greenery might start the year on just the right note while also working towards a greater purpose.  The color, Pantone says, “satisfies our growing desire to rejuvenate and revitalize, and symbolizes the reconnection we seek with nature, one another, and a larger purpose.”
