8 Design Trends to Make Every Space Yours

Westerleigh Model Home Living Room- Built In Shelving

January 7, 2020

If 2019 taught us anything about design, it’s that choosing designs that complement your interior layout is necessary, adding color and texture can transform any room, and incorporating trends that accommodate your lifestyle will make your home a much happier (and healthier!) place. We’ve chosen 8 design trends that will make every space yours without breaking the bank.

1. Beautiful Wall Storage is a simple way to add a whole lot of character to any room in your home. There are options for every layout and with so many designs to choose from, you’re guaranteed to find one that’s beautiful and functional. Visit our Model Home in Westerleigh to experience our built in storage.

2. Navy – anywhere and everywhere. Classic Blue is Pantone’s 2020 Color of the Year. It’s a stunning deep blue that’s versatile and well-received. Its rich hue makes it suitable for every design style from rustic chic to sophisticated modern. Color is replacing safe neutrals this year, and we’re here for it! We love how navy was used at our Monterey Model Home at Bel Green at Brickshire.

3. Anything but white in the kitchen. Families start their day in the kitchen, and while white offers a clean design, adding color can create a beautiful space that’s just as refreshing. According to Better Homes and Gardens, “When it comes to kitchens, white, gray, blue, red, yellow, and green really shine.” Choose a calming hue and create a warm and welcoming space everyone will love. Here is one of our favorites - gray kitchen cabinets!

4. Can’t part with your white kitchen? Consider color pop cabinets. They’re a simple and brilliant way to transform your space without having to change your wall color. Use a sophisticated shade to make a bold statement that’s visually pleasing and easy to complement with your current décor palette. Visit our Model Home in Aston located in Powhatan, VA to tour this beautiful kitchen!

5. Statement laundry rooms. In 2020, we’re reclaiming our laundry rooms by creating a pleasant space that will make laundry seem a little less daunting. Incorporate wallpaper, color pop cabinetry, wall storage, or bold trim to create a room that complements your home. The spacious laundry room in our Randolph home plan makes everyone want to help fold clothes!

6. Add warmth and texture to your kitchen with a wood range hood. Stove hoods are an incredibly easy and affordable way to update your cooking space. Wood adds texture, style, and visual appeal. Designs are versatile and can be created to accommodate every design palette from minimalist spaces to rustic farmhouse vibes.

7. Black (anywhere!) Typically associated with modern interiors, sharp edges, and minimalist décor, black is anything but boring. Black décor, details, and focal pieces can breathe new life into any room. Consider incorporating a large statement piece, unique shelving, or built-in wall storage to add bold contrast throughout your home. This former model home owner's bath makes a statement!

8. Create a versatile and multifunctional kitchen by turning your island counter into a conversation island. Unfortunately, most kitchen islands leave much to be desired. Add seating, place settings, or homey decor to your current island to create an open and welcoming space. As Anna Grethe Jørgensen of Kvik points out, “More than ever, we need somewhere to be together, and the island often plays an important role in this.”

We’ve covered a few of the biggest design trends you’ll see this year, but we have many more to offer. Stay tuned for more ideas and be sure to tour our model homes opening in 2020!
