DECK THE HALLS: The Top 5 Holiday Decorating Trends for 2016

December 8, 2016

The holiday rush is upon us, and Main Street Homes is here to offer some simple holiday decorating ideas to “Deck The Halls” of your cozy holiday home. We’ve scoured the top trends and found the best of 2016:
  1. Goodbye, Tree Skirts
By far the most interesting trend of 2016 is the farewell to tree skirts, and the introduction of everyday items in their place. We’ve seen little red wagons at the bases of trees, along with rolling stands, mini-bicycles, and bar carts. Think “outside the skirt” and imagine items that can match the décor of the room while also holding up your Christmas tree.
  1. Mason Jar Jubilee
In years past, we’ve seen decorators filling lanterns and vases with shiny baubles. Not to be left out, the mason jar makes its appearance in 2016, ready to be filled with any items that fit the festivities. Mix and match colors, textures, and patterns to fill the jars with anything to brighten up a corner, shelf, or mantle. Use the jars themselves to pattern a Christmas tree, holiday gift box, or whatever your imagination can dream.
  1. Just For Kids
Ever cringe when the kiddos want to take over the tree? Maybe your perfectly envisioned rustic tree theme doesn’t quite mix with their Spiderman, Pokemon, or Disney Princess motif? Never fear! By gifting a small tree for each child in the home, they can take ownership of the holidays and decorate to their hearts delight! Little ones love having some twinkle in their own room, along with the reedom to make their own decorating choices, which puts everyone in the holiday spirit.
  1. Rustic Relics
An emerging theme in 2016 is the return to rustic, whether is takes the form of rustic repurposed barnwood, or something more imagined like a Christmas card holder made from an old basket. Again, using everyday items to give your home a festive feel is absolutely “IN” this season.
  1. Think Outside the Wreath
Decorators love to re-purpose, so why don’t we all take a page from their book and think about ways to re-invent the old fashioned wreath? A wagon wheel, a holiday bow, pinecones, snowflakes…any of these items can be fashioned into a holiday wreath. Once you have a small collection of Christmas wreaths, assemble them into a wall collage by grouping them together. Let their simplicity and originality take it from there. Main Street Homes would love to see what you come up with this holiday season! Post your holiday decorations on our Facebook page to enter our “Deck the Halls” - click here.
