Main Street Homes Top Tips on Selecting Paint Colors

May 1, 2015

0Z7A4515 Selecting paint colors for your new home is an exciting time during the building process. Colors set the overall tone for your house and really establish a feeling throughout the home. Even in today's open floor plan homes, where kitchens, living rooms, and dining rooms are often one large space, color is used to help define rooms and create focal areas. The trick, of course, is figuring out which colors to use and where to put them. Our new Main Street Homes designer model in Hallsley exhibits a few different strategies when picking colors. 0Z7A4453Our designer recommends selecting three colors that represent a few items going into your house – a pillow from the family room sofa, a favorite painting from your bedroom, etc. Take these objects to the paint store. Select sample strips with these colors and you will have up to 15 colors from which to select your primary palette. The next step is to choose one of these as your primary wall color and then move up and down the sample strip for additional room colors, save the other represented colors for fabric and furniture. This will allow for the overall home to flow freely from room-to-room.   0Z7A4453Occasionally, it is fun to choose a fourth color as an accent color. Our pictures illustrate an accent color on the dining room ceiling. The wall color and the ceiling color tie the entire room together quite nicely. One final note, have fun picking colors!   Ask for suggestions and opinions but don’t be afraid to add a little color to your home.
