1. Canal Walk 

The canal walk features four centuries worth of history of Richmond, Virginia. Not only is the canal packed with rich history, it also has biking, canal cruises, outdoor activities, nature and art. Have no fear, if you get hungry during your walk there are many restaurants along the canal. Just to name a few restaurants on the canal—Casa del Barco, The Boathouse, Conch Republic and Bottoms Up Pizza. If you prefer to see the canal from the water’s perspective, no worries. The canal runs a 40 minute cruise that offers informative tours and private charters of the James River and Kanawha Canal along Richmond’s historic Canal Walk.

2. Segway Tour of Richmond 

RVA on Wheels offers five different tours throughout Richmond via Segway. The tours include, the Richmond Landmark Tour, Hollywood Cemetery Tour, Church Hill Tour, Shockoe Bottom Tour and the Public Arts Tour. These Segway tours embody the rich history around Richmond with a fun twist.

4. Cinébistro at Stony Point Fashion Park

Regular movies are a thing of the past. Cinébistro offers a luxury experience to the traditional movie showing. 5. Visit the Rocks

One of Richmond’s most iconic landmarks is Belle Isle, also referred to as “the rocks.” It is easily accessible from the Richmond side of the James. Belle Isle is perfect for having a picnic on the rocks, walking or biking on the trail, and enjoying the beautiful views of Richmond.

6. Play shuffle board at Tang and Biscuit 

Tang and Biscuit is RVA’s first ever shuffleboard social venue. Tang and Biscuit features 10 regulation-size floor shuffleboard courts, table shuffleboard, a 50 foot bar serving up Tang-inspired cocktails and beer, an innovative kitchen, event space and multiple other games like giant Jenga, ping pong, cornhole and more. The concept is centered around communication and engaging the community.

7. Ride Bolt Scooters around Scott’s Addition 

Bolt Scooters just launched 500 scooters to Richmond, with hopes of adding 1,500 more. The dockless electric scooters cost a quarter a minute and add a new aspect to micro mobility. The scooters are a great way to see Richmond attractions.

8. Visit the Hof Garden

The historic Hofheimer Building is a unique venue/bar located in Scott’s Addition. The HofGarden specifically is located inside, and on top, of the historic Hofheimer Building. There are 3 floors, the Beer Hall, Loft & Dark Room Music Loft and the Rooftop. The rooftop overlooks Scott’s Addition and provides great views of Richmond.

9. Friday Art & Wine at the VMFA

Every Friday the VMFA has happy hour from 5:30-7:30 p.m. There are performances, wine tastings and more. It’s a great place to hangout and catch up with friends over wine!

10. Hit the Arcade at the Circuit 

The Circuit is Richmond’s first dedicated retro and modern arcade bar, offering a vintage vibe with ultra-modern amenities. The Circuit is located in Scott’s Addition and offers not only an arcade, but self-serve beer as well. The self serve tap wall features 50 rotating local and national craft beers, ciders and wines. Although The Circuit is geared towards adults, there are family-friendly hours from open to 9:00 p.m.

11. Stony Point Wine Festival 

The Stony Point Wine Festival is July 20th from 11a.m. to 5p.m. at Stony Point Fashion Park. The festival features Virginia wines, music and fun. Latitude Seafood Co. will have pay-as-you-go seafood stations and sampling platter throughout the festival. The festival also features a live music performance by Grace Street Seven. 12. Washington Redskins Training Camp 

The Washington Redskins training camp begins July 25th and will run until August 11th. The camp is located at Bon Secours Training Center. The camp is a great opportunity to get a sneak peak at the 2019 Redskins season and to meet some of the players. There’s also kids day, youth football day and Gatorade junior training camp.

13.Richmond Funny Bone Comedy Club & Restaurant>

The Funny Bone is open Wednesday through Sunday night for comedy shows. The Funny Bone has been bringing nationally-recognized humorists to these clubs for over 30 years. It’s a great way to branch out and do something new for your weekend.

14. Carytown Farmers Market

Ready to get your local on? Every Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. local farmers and producers of goods have the opportunity to sell their products to consumers. Their mission is to enhance the unique character of the Carytown neighborhood while providing residents and visitors with a healthy shopping alternative.

15. Watermelon Festival

The 36th annual Watermelon Festival is August 11th. The Watermelon Festival is one of the most popular festivals in Carytown. Last year, there were over 115,000 attendees. There are nearly 50 performances scheduled each year and more than 100 street vendors that transform Cary Street into the Watermelon Festival as we know it.

16. Attend a Flying Squirrels Game

Go Nuts! The Richmond Flying Squirrels are the official Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants. They have home games just about every weekend. The Flying Squirrels also feature a firework show after the game.

17. Hardywood Brewery 

Whether you’re in Richmond or the West End, Hardywood has you covered with two locations. Hardwood Brewery was ranked as Virginia’s Top Brewery in 2014, 2015, and 2016 by RateBeer.com users. 

18. Richmond Jazz Festival 

The Richmond Jazz and Music Festival runs August 8th through the 11th, with the main festival held on Saturday and Sunday at Maymont. Last year the festival drew 14,000 visitors that enjoyed a variety of music styles, including jazz, blues, R&B, soul, hip-hop, funk, fusion and reggae. The Richmond Jazz Festival will be celebrating 10 years in Richmond this summer.

19. Pipeline Walkway 

Often referred to as one of the city’s best kept secrets, the Pipeline Walkway is located on the James River. Along the pipeline you can find sunbathers, walkers, runners and bicyclists. The pipeline offers a front row to seat to beautiful, hidden views of the James River.

20. Concert Series at Westchester Commons 

Every Thursday, Westchester Commons invites guest to attend their Concert Series. The Concert Series returns for a 5th year this summer and concerts are held on the Village Green, near Plaza Azteca and Noodles & Company. Each event benefits charity. All events are free to attend, and there is food and beer/wine available for sale.

21. Wine and Design 

Wine & Design offers a wide range of affordable private and public paint and sip parties for all ages, groups and skill levels. The classes consist of a little bit of chardonnay and a whole lot of celebration. The classes are great for birthday parties, bachelorette parties, baby showers, girl’s night out, business team building and more.

22. Catch a concert at the Broadberry 

The Broadberry has great alternative concerts every week. They are Richmond’s premier concert and special events venue located on West Broad Street just on the edge of the Fan.

23. Mid-Lothian Mines Park 

One of the first major industrial sites in the United States became a 44-acre preserve when Mid-Lothian Mines Park opened in 2004. There are nice trails that over look the water that are accompanied by old mine ruins.

24. Catch a Movie at the Byrd Theatre

The Byrd Theatre Foundation first opened their doors in 1928, and is still going strong today. Yeah that’s right, 90 years! The owner of the Byrd established the theatre in 2001 as a 501(c)(3) not-for- profit corporation. Its mission is to expand the big screen experience, celebrate the art of cinema and preserve Virginia’s grand motion picture palace, with a vision to elevate the Byrd’s landmark position among American theaters as a center for film that continues to provide the broadest possible public access to exceptional cinematic experiences. There movies are normally out of theaters by the time they hit the Byrd, but $4 a ticket, it might just be worth the wait.
