6 Questions To Ask Your Moving Company

July 29, 2014

Fun with moving dayAre you moving into one of the beautiful new homes in Mechanicsville, VA like the ones in Christian Ridge? If you are chances are you have searched for a moving company to help assist you and your family with the move. There is an overwhelming amount of moving companies but how do you know what to look for in a moving company? Here are a few questions to ask a potential moving company:
  1. How long has the Mover been in business?
Experience definitely counts! Their track record will show their ability to move your possessions in a safe manner. 2. Is the Mover licensed? Your moving company should have a U.S. Department Of Transportation number, especially if you are moving to another state. To ensure your mover’s D.O.T. number is valid, you can search for it on the U.S. Dept. of Transportation’s website. If you are moving within your current state your mover will need a state license.
  1. Is the Mover insured?
You can verify that the company is insured on the U.S. Dept. of Transportation’s website. Never use a moving company without a license number or insurance. Check with the mover to see if your personal items are covered by their insurance during the move. You can also check with your insure to see if your homeowner’s or renter’s policy covers your items. If your items are not covered, you may want to consider supplemental moving insurance. 4. Does the Mover have a Better Business Bureau rating? Visit the Better Business Bureau (BBB) site to check out the mover’s rating. You can also use online resources like Yelp, Citysearch and TrustLink for reviews on services from others in your area. 5. Does the Mover have a consolidation policy and what are their delivery time     windows? This is important if you are moving out of state. Consolidation is when your items are combined with other’s items and shipped together. This is a great way to save money, however you need to be aware that it will add time to the delivery schedule due to multiple stops for the other deliveries. 6. How many Movers will be on the job? Will these movers wrap and protect your furniture to prevent damages and how long will the job take? Will you be charged if there is overtime?  These are all important questions to ask to help you determine the company that will best fit your moving situation.
