With this philosophy, we are excited to announce the return of our Charity Golf Tournament this year, an event that has grown into a tradition of support and awareness for a cause that matters deeply to us and the areas we serve. Continuing the Tradition

Since 2017, Main Street Homes has been at the forefront of supporting an important cause through our Charity Golf Tournament. In past years, we’ve proudly supported organizations that bring awareness to ALS, a neurodegenerative disease that affects countless lives—including our dear friend Bobby Quinn, a long-time trade partner with Griffith Heating & Cooling and a Main Street homeowner. 

This year, we’ve shifted our focus to support CARITAS—an active community of caring that provides people experiencing homelessness or addiction in Richmond with a safe space for healing and recovery. More than just shelter, CARITAS offers the tools and guidance needed to rebuild and renew lives, fostering a sense of hope and empowerment.

About CARITAS: Building Bridges to a Better Future

Without a doubt, CARITAS stands as a beacon of hope in the local RVA community. Their multifaceted approach includes shelter, addiction recovery services, workforce development and much more. Their mission aligns seamlessly with our values at Main Street Homes, where we believe in the transformative power of a helping hand. CARITAS is actively building bridges to a better future for those who need it most, and we are thrilled to stand alongside them in this endeavor.

Their journey began in the 1980s as a response to a pressing social issue—the rising number of individuals experiencing homelessness in the area. The convergence of various factors—including the release of mental health patients into the community, the closure of low-rent hotels, substance use issues and economic challenges—led to a surge in homelessness. In those early years, CARITAS was an all-volunteer effort called “Winter Cots.” The faith community joined hands and opened the doors of downtown churches and synagogues, offering shelter, cots and blankets to those in need for several weeks at a time. Seeking guidance from Emergency Shelter, Inc., CARITAS was officially incorporated as Congregations Around Richmond Involved To Assure Shelter in 1987. 

As their mission evolved, CARITAS expanded beyond downtown Richmond to include the broader city and surrounding counties. It transformed into a year-round place of community, offering more comprehensive support than just shelter, marking the beginning of a legacy of compassion. The CARITAS Center opened in late 2020, which includes: 

• The Healing Place for Women: 142-bed peer-based recovery program.
• CARITAS Works: Expanded state-of-the-art classroom space.
• Furniture Bank: Warehouse space for Furniture Bank clients and volunteers.
• 47 Sober-Living Apartments: For program graduates and qualifying community members.
• Women’s Emergency Shelter: A permanent location, providing a safe haven during a crisis and a bridge to stability.
• CARITAS Administrative Offices: All located efficiently under one roof.
• Leased Office Space: The Bon Secours Community Health Clinic in Manchester shares our building, with its entrance at 2301 Everett Street.

This year's Charity Golf Tournament promises to be an engaging and impactful event, just as it has been in years past. On Monday, September 18th at the picturesque Brandermill Country Club in Midlothian, Virginia, the day will be filled with camaraderie, competitive spirit and a shared commitment to making a difference. From on-course challenges to post-tournament celebrations, every moment of the event is designed to showcase our unwavering support for CARITAS and their incredibly important cause.
