National Homeownership Month: What Homeownership Has Meant to Our Homeowners

June 28, 2026

As National Homeownership Month comes to a close, we've found ourselves reflecting on what homeownership truly means. Of course, it's about owning a home, but more importantly, it’s about creating traditions, finding a place to put down roots, and building a future that reflects your family's goals.

For over 30 years, Main Street Homes has had the privilege of helping families throughout Richmond, VA and Central Virginia reach that milestone. As a employee-owned homebuilder, we've always believed that the most meaningful measure of our success isn't the number of homes we build. It's the stories our homeowners share after they've settled in.

As we celebrate National Homeownership Month, we'd like to let a few of those stories speak for themselves.

More Than a House. A Place to Call Home.

Every homeowner's journey is different, but one thing we hear time and time again is how rewarding it feels to move into a home that's designed around the way they live.

The Baptiste family built their home in our Amburn community near Downtown Ashland. As first-time homebuyers, they knew they wanted the peace of mind that comes with a new construction home instead of taking on the unknowns of an older resale home.

What stood out most wasn't just the finished home. It was the experience.

"The difference with Main Street and the other builders that we visited was that when we came in, it was like we were already part of the family," they shared. "From the questions we had, to financing, to the design team, everything just flowed. It was a very great experience."

That feeling is exactly what we strive for with every homeowner who chooses one of our new homes in the Richmond area.

A Home That Fits Your Life

No two families are alike, which is why we believe every home should feel personal.

Whether you're looking for first-floor living in Midlothian, a spacious single-family home in Chesterfield County, or a new construction home in Goochland or New Kent County, our goal is to provide floor plans that can be tailored to your lifestyle; not the other way around.

Alexander E. described his experience this way:

"We were able to pretty easily identify the floor plan that was the closest to meeting our requirements, and then we were able to easily secure the changes that we needed. Our home is almost entirely exactly what we want and nothing that we don't want."

That flexibility is something our Realtor partners notice, too.

Christina Goodpaster of Providence Hill Real Estate not only recommends Main Street Homes to her clients, she also lives in one herself.

One of the reasons she enjoys working with our team is the communication throughout the building process, along with the opportunity for buyers to personalize their homes.

"There are just so many options that not every builder has to really make your home custom to you."

Built to Last and Built to Be Loved

A home is one of the biggest investments you'll ever make, and we're honored when homeowners trust us with that responsibility.

Many of the comments we receive mention the same things: thoughtful floor plans, craftsmanship, and quality that lasts well beyond move-in day.

"The floorplans and design options are all gorgeous, and the build quality is top notch. I've already recommended them to friends and family." — Lauren L.

"The structural integrity, quality, and overall design of our home is exactly what we were looking for!" — Brandon P.

"We absolutely adore our Main Street Home! We downsized after 20 years and we certainly made the right choice. Our layout and first-floor living is exactly what we were looking for." — Nancy H.

Perhaps one of our favorite reflections comes from Nick C., who shared:

"Thank you for not just building a house, but instead building a home that me and my family are safe in and can continue to enjoy for many, many years to come."

That's why we do what we do.
